Dating

A close friend of mine has a daughter that is out of school and trying to find a boyfriend. Her daughter has dated some men that have been on the Dealbreakers list, according to Psychology Today, May 2014.

My friend suggested that her daughter should raise her standards to the following expectations:

·         He should be at least 18 years old.

·         He should have graduated from High School.

·         If he has graduated from High School, he should have a full time job, join the military or go on to higher education.

·         He should respect his parents and her parents.

·         He should not beg you to do something you do not want to do. If he threatens to kill himself if you don’t do whatever, RUN!

·         He should be able to pass a drug test at any given moment.

·         He should have a valid driver’s license.

·         He should be able to drive when he takes you out.

·         He should not have a laundry list of cases on Wisconsin Circuit Court Access. If there are cases that are still open, RUN!

·         He should get a haircut if you cannot see his face. Man buns are Okay in certain scenarios.

·         He should speak in complete sentences.

·         He should have the skills to talk to anyone in person as opposed to solely communicating through social media.

·         He should not spend the majority of his time telling you how psycho his ex was.

·         He should not have you reach out to his ex, just to make her jealous.

·         He should have a form of income other than donating plasma.

·         He should let you sleep at night instead of watching him play video games all night via Facetime.

·         He should have at least one other healthy hobby besides playing video games.

·         He should pick up after himself.

·         He should not ask your older sibling to buy him alcohol if he is not of age.

·         He should not stalk you.

·         He should treat you the way you deserve to be treated, with words and actions.

·         He should be Mr. Right, instead of Mr. Right Now. Mr. Right is worth waiting for.

Hopefully my friend’s daughter agrees.
